Ancestral Technologies

Red Winds collaborates with Ancestral Technologies, a Chilean company developing sustainable food-production and life-support systems for extreme environments. Through its activities in the Atacama Desert and collaborations within the NASA space ecosystem, Ancestral Technologies contributes valuable expertise in resource-efficient systems and field validation for future space applications.

The collaboration brings together complementary capabilities in energy, food production, and environmental resilience. By combining these technologies, both organizations contribute to the development of solutions that can support remote operations, disaster-response activities, and future human presence beyond Earth.

Ultragreen

Red Winds collaborates with Ultragreen, a Peruvian Deep Tech and FoodTech company developing innovative solutions in nutritional biotechnology, sustainable food production, and resource-efficient cultivation systems. Through its work with microalgae technologies, digital traceability, and community-based production models, UltraGreen contributes to building resilient food systems for diverse environments, ranging from urban settings to remote and high-altitude regions such as the Peruvian Puna.

The collaboration originated through the Mars-to-Table initiative, where both organizations identified opportunities to combine expertise in energy, food production, and environmental resilience. Together, we explore technologies that can support remote operations, resource-constrained environments, and future sustainable communities on Earth and beyond. 

Ultragreen’s work has received recognition from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Its founder and CEO, Guido Gerónimo Maldonado, was recognized by FAO Peru for his contributions to innovation, sustainability, and the development of solutions that strengthen food production and food security in the country.

The Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery

We collaborate with the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IMP PAN), a leading Polish research institute with expertise in aerodynamics, structural analysis, energy conversion systems, and advanced engineering. 

The institute provides access to research infrastructure and testing capabilities, including wind tunnel facilities and advanced measurement systems. The institute’s research excellence is reflected by the presence of scientists recognized in the Stanford University and Elsevier Top 2% Scientists ranking. Collaboration between Red Winds and IMP PAN has been established through the Interreg South Baltic project IMPETUS and joint participation in research and innovation initiatives.

Uppsala University Innovation

Red Winds originated from research and innovation activities connected to Uppsala University and is part of the University’s broader innovation ecosystem. Through UU Innovation, Uppsala University’s innovation office, the company benefits from support in innovation management, intellectual property, business development, market validation, and funding strategies.

This ecosystem provides access to experienced advisors, specialist expertise, and valuable networks that help accelerate the development and commercialization of new technologies. The support from UU Innovation contributes to strengthening Red Winds’ innovation strategy, commercial readiness, and long-term growth.

Ongoing Initiatives

Mars-to-Table Challenge

Red Winds is participating in NASA’s Mars-to-Table Challenge together with Alexa Gallardo (Chilean Professional Nutritionist, Chef, and Food Innovation Consultant), Ancestral Technologies and UltraGreen. The initiative brings together complementary expertise in energy systems, sustainable food production, biotechnology, and environmental resilience to explore integrated solutions for future human missions beyond Earth.

The challenge focuses on developing food systems capable of operating with minimal dependence on Earth-based supply chains while supporting long-duration missions on the Moon and Mars. Beyond space exploration, the same concepts have direct relevance for remote communities, disaster-response operations, scientific stations, and other environments where access to critical resources may be limited.

Through this collaboration, Red Winds contributes expertise in resilient energy systems while working alongside partners developing innovative approaches to food production and life-support technologies. Together, the team explores how integrated infrastructure solutions can strengthen human resilience both on Earth and in future space habitats.

The IMPETUS Project

Red Winds participates as an Associated Partner in the IMPETUS project, an international initiative co-financed by the Interreg South Baltic Programme that promotes innovation and collaboration in renewable energy across the South Baltic region.

The project focuses on advancing Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) technology through research, education, prototype development, and cross-border knowledge exchange. By bringing together universities, research institutes, industry partners, and innovation organizations, IMPETUS aims to accelerate the development of efficient, sustainable, and environmentally responsible wind-energy solutions. 

As an Associated Partner, Red Winds contributes expertise in wind-turbine aerodynamics, technology development, and commercialization. The collaboration provides opportunities to exchange knowledge with leading organizations in the region, support future talent development, and contribute to the advancement of next-generation wind-energy technologies.

VFT Market Analysis and Customer Validation

With support from UU Innovation’s Verification for Growth (VFT) program, Red Winds is undertaking a market-analysis and customer-validation initiative aimed at accelerating the commercialization of resilient energy technologies.

The activity focuses on understanding customer needs, evaluating potential market opportunities, and identifying application areas where deployable renewable-energy solutions can create the greatest impact. The results will support future product development, business strategy, and engagement with industrial and public-sector stakeholders.

Building resilient technologies requires more than technical expertise alone. Red Winds actively seeks partnerships that strengthen innovation, accelerate validation, and create pathways toward real-world deployment in challenging environments.
